Estimating Signal Timing of Actuated Signal Control Using Pattern Recognition under Connected Vehicle Environment

The Signal Phase and Timing (SPaT) message is an important input for research applications of Connected Vehicles (CVs). However, the actuated signal controllers are not able to directly give SPaT information since influenced by both control logic real-time traffic demand. This study elaborates estimation method which proposed according idea that controller would provide similar timing states. Thus, quantitative description states important. flow at each approaching lane has been compared fluids. state fluids can be indicated parameters, e.g. speed or height, its energy, includes kinetic energy potential energy. Similar fluids, this paper model flow, it also added queue length as additional parameter. Based on that, intersections descripted. Then, a pattern recognition algorithm was developed identify most historical their corresponding SPaTs, whose average estimated second. result shows error 3.1 seconds.
